Black Dog Tags

Wearing black dog tags will set you apart from the group, from the crowd. Most tags are metal colored, gold or silver but black is not a common color to find. Black dog tags are not necessarily made of metal, they sometimes have metal edges going all around them or maybe a piece of metal in the middle. Black dog tags are made of different materials, onyx, black carbon fiber and tungsten are just examples. There are simpler models made with stainless steel and combined with rare skins that give it a different look. The skins are treated but they do not lose their natural characteristic. In fact the treatment process used enhances these characteristics. A very nice model for a dog tag is made of stainless steel which is covered with alligator skin but has a thin metallic edge just to frame the alligator skin. In one corner you can have a couple of cubic zirconium for shine and décor.

This design would look great and it would not be expensive because it is made with materials that are rare and have a certain value but they affordable and accessible. So you see, there are many possibilities within everybody’s budget to buy a delicately finished set of black dog tags. You can always combine different materials to create the piece you want, you do not have to buy a piece that is already made. Go to the jewelry store and ask them if they will make what you want, try online too; many places will accept orders for rare pieces.

There is one small detail that you should consider. Black dog tags do not look good with gold chains. The gold color upsets the black background and they do not match. Gold is used with a brown or tan dog tag. Black is used with stainless steel, silver and platinum, bright, shiny metallic colors will bring out the details and make the black parts of your dog tags the center of attention.

Remember the combination of black dog tags and the white metal chains like those mentioned above lose their shine when in too much contact with abrasive chemicals and with perfumes and lotions. Before putting your dog tag chain or necklace on, wait a few minutes until the lotion or cologne dries on your skin. Do not put it directly on the chain. Wash it with mild soap every few days and wipe it clean with a soft cloth, the shine will return immediately.
